Kristy Apps

LABEL: SUGARRUSH Records

“Kristy Apps is a performer who infuses her music with a certain something. The music and lyrics stand alone but when you add a purely unrestrained vocal tone it makes the jaded of listeners sit up, take notice and be moved” - Nikki Bignol Q News

Kristy is definitely not your run of the mill singer/songwriter, her music has a sense of recklessness that ignores all boundaries and makes it very difficult to define her sound. She uses a blend of rock, folk and country but often colours outside of the lines. She delivers her songs, as she was hand delivering you a telegraph, written for you or for someone you know and reminds you of what it feels like to be 10 foot tall and bullet proof to completely vulnerable and naked from chorus to verse.

Kristy’s latest release POUR ME OUT has been recorded and produced by ARIA nominated producer Anthony Lycenko in Byron Bay. Recorded with some of Australia’s best musicians this album shows Kristy’s songs taking on their finest forms. It showcases a wide range of new songs with rock punches and folk sensibilities. Anthony, known most recently for his work with Pete Murray had an instant connection to Kristy’s music and worked closely with her on developing new sounds, highlighting the depth of her vocal talent and song writing whilst staying true to her roots. With songs like title track Pour Me Out that bounces between catchy country licks to unsettling instrumentation exploring the concept of being judged or measured by other peoples perceptions“ I’d like to see the tape you’d use to measure me, I’d like to see the jug you’d use to put me in put me in Pour Me Out”, to songs like Be Patient a simple stripped back love song with bumps and bruises to match the story, the occasional smile reveals itself in the vocal of otherwise a self reflective conversation and it wouldn’t be a Kristy Apps CD with some edgy rock thrown in which is what you get in Physical, a slap in the face rock song about an innocent crush becoming  a physical entity.

Kristy began her solo career with the release of her debut EP ‘HEY MR LION’ through Funk Folk Records, distributed nationally through MGM. After touring the EP nationally performing with artists like Pete Murray and Deb Conway, Kristy jumped on a plane and headed to the U.S. for a 2-month promo tour. She played folk festivals including Susquehanna Music and Arts Festival playing with many artists who has inspired her over the years. Other highlights of the tour included being invited to be a part of a singer/songwriter showcase at the Philadelphia Entertainment Centre, playing Atlanta’s infamous Eddies Attic and appearing on a sampler put out by Michelle Malone.

‘STRANGER IN THE DIVIDE’ her second release saw Kristy shed her skin and strip it back to where she is so powerful with just guitar and vocal allowing the songs to stand on there own where nothing gets lost in translation.

Throughout her career Kristy has been acclaimed for her passionate vocal, intimate song writing and energetic on stage performance.
