Brindle

LABEL: SUGARRUSH Records
"Dramatic, sexy, blistering, handclap rock.” Hotpress Magazine
When Brindle first walked onto the stage, no one – not even the band – expected they would evolve into the hard-hitting outfit of today. Back then, Brindle’s less-is-more approach saw the songs driven by just an acoustic guitar and Deb Suckling’s whirlwind of a voice… but slowly, Brindle began to change.
Looking to expand their horizons, the band gradually began drifting away from their acoustic roots and embraced a powerful, dynamic new direction. Since then, Brindle has re-invented itself several times, constantly experimenting with different styles and approaches to songwriting. That attitude has seen Brindle grow into a band more interested in pushing its own boundaries, than jumping on the latest musical bandwagon.
Drawing on influences ranging from Patti Smith to Sonic Youth, The Pixies and …The Trail of Dead, the Brindle sound is passionate and playful, powerful and intense…and never predictable.
Over the past seven years, the Brisbane quartet has independently released three EPs (Brindle, Stories and Classification), two singles (Catch/Candles and Fight You For It) and their debut album, It Takes An Army.
That album was released through the band’s own label SUGARRUSH Records, distributed nationally by ModernMusic/SonyBMG. Abroad, Brindle has secured release in the UK through MSR Recordings and has negotiated a number of licensing and publishing agreements in South-East Asia and the United States. Brindle’s music has also been released globally online through the band’s own digital label SugarRush Digital in partnership with the US based IODA Alliance.
Each release has earned Brindle national airplay on Australia’s national Triple J Network and ongoing support from community radio around the country including influential stations Triple R and PBS in Melbourne, and Sydney’s FBI Radio. Meanwhile film clips produced by the band have appeared nationally on all key television music programs including Rage, Video Hits, Channel V and MTV. Overseas, Brindle has received airplay across the North American and Canadian college radio networks and in the UK on Kerrang Radio.
That support from radio has come on top of the growing live following the band is building across Australia. Brindle has performed extensively up and down the east coast of the country and across to Adelaide, performing in all the city’s key venues such as The Zoo and The Troubadour in Brisbane, The Hopetoun (Sydney) and The Tote (Melbourne). Brindle has also performed at a string of major festivals and events including The Big Day Out, Valley Fiesta, and 4ZzZ Market Day.
It Takes an Army saw the band tour Canada and secure releases in the UK, publishing in the US and receive airplay on dozens of college stations across Canada and the US.
Of late Brindle have been locked down in the studio working on the follow up to their debut album It Takes An Army which was released in 2006 to critical acclaim both in Australia and internationally.
The so new it doesn’t have a name yet sophomore album is slated for release worldwide in 2010 through their own digital label SUGARRUSH Records.
The first single from the new album Dinosaur has recently hit airwaves in Australia.
DINOSAUR is a three-minute blast of energy loaded with enough noise to stop Thurston Moore in his tracks and a hook that hits you between the eyes. More importantly, it’s a song that captures the leave it all on the stage assault of the band’s live show.
