Butcher Birds

LABEL: Mere Noise Records
Butcher Birds formed in Brisbane, Australia in late 2005. Butcher Birds are Stacey Coleman (vocals/guitar), Joanna Nilson (bass/vocals), Jacinta Walker (guitar/vocals) and Donovan Miller (drums).
The band released their debut EP, ‘Eat Their Young’, in 2006 through Brisbane label Mere Noise Records and MGM distribution. ‘Eat Their Young’ garnered a great response from local and national music press, who compared it to artists the Breeders, Sonic Youth and My Bloody Valentine. The release led to national touring and radio play throughout Australia.
Butcher Birds have supported such acts as Eagles of Death Metal, Black Mountain, Beasts of Bourbon, the Drones and New Pornographers and have made appearances at various national music festivals.
After shutting themselves away in Brisbane’s ARIA award winning Blackbox Studios (Brisbane) with renowned local engineer and producer, Jeff Lovejoy, the band have re-emerged with their debut long-player, “SET MY BONES”. It has taken the turning up of amps, tinkering of guitars, pressing of pedals, a questionable consumption of alcohol and about 100 salad sandwiches to bring this record to fruition.
What has resulted, however, could be described as “mermaids singing over a riot” with its’ pop choruses, heavy riffs, and experimental, atmospheric sounds.
“The Butcher Birds are the best grunge revival Brisbane has to offer. Think Bikini Kill, early Sleater-Kinney, three grrrls out front, a dude on drums, a bass player with screamo pipes. Such nostalgic bliss” – RAVE MAGAZINE
